Designed by Mark Weirich Architect, Inc., the home’s sleek, mountain-modern aesthetic is complemented by a landscape that feels naturally rooted in its surroundings. The homeowners sought a native Montana forest meadow theme, blending the rugged landscape with low-maintenance, low-water-use plantings. We responded with a design that seamlessly incorporates wildfire defense techniques, ensuring that the home is not only beautiful but resilient.

Every detail of the landscape enhances the living experience while requiring minimal upkeep. Natural stone step staircases lead through terraced boulder retaining walls, creating effortless transitions across the property. Flagstone stepping stones guide informal circulation, while a fire pit area invites gatherings against the backdrop of towering peaks. Select trees were carefully removed to open up expansive views while maintaining a balance of mature trees that provide both privacy and wildfire protection.

Steel-wrapped column bases, boulder steps, and a lawn space for the family dogs are all thoughtfully integrated into the landscape. Each element is designed to harmonize with the modern architecture while evoking the rugged spirit of the land. The result is a tranquil space that not only enhances the natural surroundings but also serves as a functional, enduring investment for the homeowners.
